Underhill,
October 1, 2007 to September 30, 2008
The Jericho-Underhill Water
District provides drinking water and fire hydrant access to approximately 900
people within the District. During the past year drinking water supplied to the
District averaged 52,200 gallons per day, which is approximately the same as
during the past few years. During this period the results of
The District completed a year of quarterly sampling of the new Poker Hill Tank for volatile organic compounds (VOC’s). The results met all standards and requirements. The tank is in full use conditional upon being tested annually for VOC’s.
During August 2008 the submersible pumps in the two District production wells were replaced, and the wells and well casings were inspected by video camera. The wells are in good condition and continue to produce at or above rated capacity.
Also during the past fiscal year the Board took steps to protect the pump control wires, power lines and water main which are under the Brown’s river. In October 2007 the Board completed a project in which the pump control wires and power lines were removed from conduit under the river and re-routed overhead. In September 2008 the Board completed a project to protect an exposed portion of the water main by covering it with large stones.
At a special meeting the District approved changes in the Regulations to allow the Board to approve the use of materials other than ductile iron for water mains.
During the past fiscal year three new residential customers were connected to the system. System repairs and maintenance during the year included investigating incidents of water discoloration or odor, replacing customer meters, and routine system flushing; control building repairs included rebuild and replacement of the anti-surge valve mechanism, and of the fluoridation equipment. Based on a customer concern, the District has enhanced its testing capability and has tested occasionally for hydrogen sulfide. Also during the year the District Source Protection Plan was updated.
The District is coordinating with Vermont Gas Systems to insure that water lines are not damaged during the installation of gas mains. This has meant locating and marking the locations of water service lines and shut off valves of many customers.
The Board wishes to thank its employees and volunteers for their work through out the year. The Board took special notice of the service of assistant operator Paul Selsky who resigned effective June 30th. If you are a resident of the District who would be interested in serving the District as a trustee, officer, employee, or volunteer please contact the Board. The Board asks District residents and customers to report water related irregularities such as leaks, wet spots, pressure swings, taste concerns, color concerns, etc. In the past customer reports have been key to finding leaks and solving problems.
The District website is located at
