Harold Sargent called the emergency meeting to order at 7:36 P.M. The purpose of this emergency meeting was to discuss issues dealing with the transition of the water district from its current operation to operating after Harold Sargent resigns.

A discussion of the various issues was held.  Marc stated that by law the district must have a System Operator and a Backup Operator.  Currently both Harold Sargent and Marc Maheux are certified by the State of Vermont.  With Harold leaving, the operations will need to be handled differently.  Marc said that he currently works 3 - 4 hours a week for the district.  He foresees a need for him to work 8 - 12 hours per week.  An part-time assistant operator is also needed.  It was suggested that the assistant operator would help with such things as meter reading, replacing our current meter reader, changing water meters, flushing the water lines, and doing the chlorine and fluoride testing, replacing the current tester, as well as becoming familiar with the operations at the Control Building.  The amount of time the assistant would be needed was discussed.  The hours would need to be more, at first, until all facets of the position were learned.  Part of the requirement of the position would be a willingness to take an apprenticeship course and become certified.

The financing of these two position was discussed.  Peter compared our current income verses the possible costs of the two positions.  Whether the trustees should do more of the district upkeep to curb costs was discussed.  Raising the current water rate was also discussed.  No action was taken on these issues at this time.

Advertising for the positions was discussed.  Peter will look into the costs for advertising in the BURLINGTON FREE PRESS.  Other possibilities for advertising were also discussed. Advertising should begin as soon as possible to facilitate filling the position.

Bills were reviewed and approved for payment.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:40 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Katharine A. Koniuto
